The Greene County baseball team continues their search for their first season win after a tough 0-3 week ahead of a busy upcoming schedule.
The Rams play home on Wednesday, June 5, against Perry with a Friday home game against PCM. Next week, Greene County will face South Hamilton on Monday, June 10 at home, with Roland-Story coming on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, May 28, the Rams hosted Van Meter, falling 12-4. Van Meter opened the night with four runs in the first inning while Greene County was held scoreless. In the second inning, Van Meter scored four more runs, with the Rams getting on the scoreboard with three runners crossing home plate. One Bulldog run was scored in the third, neither team scoring in the fourth and both teams adding one to the board in the fifth. The Bulldogs put a period on the action with two runs in the sixth inning.The Rams had four hits from 24 at bats, with all four being singles. Crew Conner smacked two, and Jaron Jacobs and Lane Fields were each credited with one hit. Seven Rams walked, with three hit by pitches and 11 striking out.
On the field, the Rams saw nine assists and 21 putouts and five errors on 35 total chances. Teagan Chisholm did the majority of the Ram pitching, ultimately pinned with the loss with 98 pitches allowing seven hits, seven earned runs, four walks and four sacrifices, with three hit batters. Crew Conner allowed one walk in his 25 pitches, with Lane Fields walking one, allowing one hit and one earned run in 12 pitches.
The Rams hosted Nevada on Wednesday, falling 7-4 to the Cubs. Nevada was up 5-0 by the time the Rams came to bat in the fifth inning when Greene County managed to get one runner home. The last two innings brought three more Ram runs, with Nevada scoring two more.
There were five hits by Greene County, all singles. Six batters walked to first, with two being hit by a pitch and one reaching on an error. Eight Rams struck out in the night. The team saw 21 putouts and two errors on 31 total chances, with seven stolen bases allowed. Noah Hinote threw 101 pitches, allowing eight hits and four walks with one hit batter and five strikeouts.
Friday brought an 8-0 loss for Greene County at home against West Marshall. Three Rams advanced to first from single hits, but were ubable to make it home. Seven struck out in the evening. On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts with one error on 28 total chances. Crew Conner was on the mound, allowing 13 hits, two walks and two sacrifices with one hit batter and two strikeouts.
